Credentials
The Regional Superintendent of Schools is required to hold various educational degrees and certifications. Among the certificates requires are a teaching, administrative, and superintendent endorsement.
Presently, your regional superintendent is completing his doctorate degree.

Office Overview
The Regional Office of Education serves the comunity and schools in various capacities relating to education.
Services
Teacher Certification - register all active teachers and school administrators
- issue Substitute Teacher Certificates, Entitlements & Teacher Aide Approval Letters
- issue Work Authorization Permits
Professional Development - Improvement of Instruction
- School Improvement Services
- Support schools in the Quality Assurance process
- Technology Services
- Leadership Development
Health & Life Safety - inspect public schools annually for safety issues
- provide courses in safety & first aid for bus drivers
- approve building & occupancy permits
GED - classes and testing for General Education Degrees
Cooperative Management - assist the ISBE,Compliance division, in evaluation/recognition of public & private schools
- maintain maps of school districts
- administer cooperative programs
- monitor public schools during strikes
- remove school board members for failure to perform official duties
- assist with cooperatives, special education & vocational programs
- serve as Ex-Officio secretary of the Regional Board of School Trustees
Financial - audit district claims for General State Aid, categorical funds, & Federal grants
- review budgets, audits, evidence of indebetedness & annual financial reports
- check bonding for school treasurers
- disburse state & federal funds
- act as administrative and/or fiscal agent for appropriate programs
Public Relations - respond to questions/concerns from parents, teachers, administrators, board of education & other citizens
- promote/support educational programs & achievements of the schools & educators
- hold public hearings on topics vital to education
- serve as liaison between the state legislature & local school districts
- serve as liaison between the ISBE and local school districts
Transportation - condut & keep records of the initial training required for new shool bus drivers prior to receiving bus permit
- conduct & keep records of annual refresher workshop prior to renewing school bus permits
The Regional Safe School Program - an alternative learning opportunity for students who are about to be expelled from school & have no other educational alternative
- assists an effective transfer back to the regular school program when student achieves his/her goals
School Crisis Assistance Team - teams that develop a network that assists schools during & following a violent incident or other traumatic event
- provides support in a crisis & assists in the training of local school teams
Julie A and Lloyd W. Lehman Journalism Scholarship - scholarship fund is supported annually by the Illinois Association of Regional Superintendents of Schools & by public & private contributions
- application for the scholarship is made annually to the Cook County Regional Office of Education
Ombudsman Role - The ROE serves as ombudsman as citizens raise issues & have disputes involving parents, children & schools
Organ Donor Program - assists Illinois Secretary of State with Organ Donor Program
- ROE's offer training & information to districts in each region
Legal Opinions - ROE secures numerous legal opinions each year which cover a wide variety of topics for use by administrators, school attorneys, school board members, teachers & the general public
